Background:
Lambton Primary was founded in 1979 and is situated in the relatively new town of Washington, which is built around the village principle with a mixture of private and council houses. The school buildings are of 'an excellent standard and very well maintained'. They are located in 'large' grounds which are surrounded by woodland. The school provides the core and foundation subjects of the national curriculum and RE, and other areas are promoted through cross-curricular themes. Extra-curricular activities include football, guitar club, recorders and a choir. The school encourages pupils to raise funds for local and national charities. Parents are encouraged to become 'involved in school life', with many coming into the school to help with activities such as reading, cooking, sewing, library and art activities. The school aims to 'provide a safe, happy, well ordered community in which children can be valued as individuals'.
