Background:

Built in 1952, the school was reorganised during the 1960s and again in 1984, when it became a primary school and was given its current name. It has an 'extremely varied' catchment area, and many pupils are drawn from low income families. Pupils' range of experiences and abilities is seen by the school as a 'great strength', and it is keen to promote equal opportunities, putting together mixed gender teams for all sporting activities. Extra curricular activities include jewellery making, poetry, drama, French, keep fit for parents, and various sports. Pupils are involved in the creation of a 'secret garden' area in addition to the wild garden and pond created in 1990. Key Stage 2 pupils spend at least one weekend away at Lake Windermere. The 'extremely active' Friends and Relatives of Goathland School (FROGS) group arranges social, community and fundraising activities for the school. A number of charities are supported every year. Very positive welcoming school. Staff work strongly as a team.
