Background:
The school was founded in 1928 but moved into a new building in 1995. Situated in the north of Newcastle, it is surrounded by office developments and a residential estate. Facilities are 'very good' with good play areas, a modern building and good security. It has 'close' links with the local Catholic Church of St Charles and 'as a Catholic school we aim to demonstrate our distinctiveness in the way we treat all the children in our care'. A wide range of activities is offered, especially sporting, and the school is particularly proud of its success in football, badminton, swimming and rugby. The 'very active' parent-teacher association provides activities and events throughout the year and raises 'considerable' sums for the school. Fundraising for other causes has benefited CAFOD, Catholic Children's Handicapped Society, Comic Relief, Jeans for Genes and NCH Action for Children. The school is over-subscribed.
