Founded in 1975, St Columba's is located in 'private grounds in Wallsend. Wallsend is traditionally a shipbuilding town where unemployment is 'significantly above' the national average. Facilities include a 'large' hall, computer room and library. In the past six years the school has developed a programme of sporting activities. Teams compete against local schools in boys and girls football, mixed mini-rugby, netball, cross-country, athletics, cricket and rounders. In addition to this, pupils are offered residential courses to experience sports such as canoeing, archery, abseiling, climbing and hiking. The school'supports a major charity each Advent term and also support the local Catholic charity, St Cuthbert's Care. 'At St Columba's RC Primary School it will endeavour to follow the example of 'Jesus Christ' by loving, respecting and forgiving all. Children parents and staff are valued and supported by the school community. Each individual in school is special and it will work together to promote self-worth and self-esteem'.
