Background:
Founded in 1714, the oldest church school in the Diocese of Durham; current school rebuilt in 1971 as one-form entry primary school; occupies pleasant site serving the surrounding development, which is mainly owner-occupied housing. Over-subscribed; close links with St Mary's Parish Church. The school has a wide range of extra-curricular activities: football, gymnastics, netball, cricket, athletics and tennis. Links with the local community; welcomes a variety of visitors. The school has achieved the DfES achievement award (2002). The school aims to provide a safe, comfortable working environment which stimulates and encourages childrens development and values the work of others.
