Background:

Serves Wearmouth Deanery; most pupils come from the southern outskirts of Sunderland. Facilities include nursery and computer suites; The school has recently refurbished kitchen to provide healthy food and KS 2 area with new classrooms having interactive white boards. Addition of medical room enables to provide support for children requiring medication and treatment. The grounds are being developed to include new play areas and 'outdoor classroom'. The school has recently installed cycle sheds and connected the school to Sustrans cycle path national network encouraging older children to cycle to school.The school continues to achieve highly and through recent developments- redesigning the curriculum; the school is broadening experiences of all the children.Pupils can receive coaching in squash, tennis and badminton at Sunderland Health and Racquet Club. Strong parental support from the Friends of Benedict Biscop; links with local church, St Wilfrid's.
