Background:
From September 1999 Washington School was designated a Department for Education and Employment Technology College. The oldest secondary school in Washington town, it is accepted by the LEA that the Technology and Science facilities are in need of replacement. Strengths are cited as community development and training; Washington School pioneered a new approach to integrating pupils with learning difficulties, Curriculum Access Provision allowing each pupil to be given their own timetable which integrates them into tutor groups and as many other subjects as possible. The school is also pilotting a course to train unemployed people as classroom assistants. It has Education Industry and Education Business Partjnership Awards .
