Background:
Founded in 1933 as a mixed infant, junior and secondary school, East Rainton Primary serves the village and the outlying community. Situated high up in the village, the school offers panoramic views of Houghton and the Durham area. In spite of its small numbers, the school is still able to offer a number of specialist extra-curricular activities, including French, 'fit for fun', mini rugby and a school magazine club. East Rainton follows national guidelines with regard to pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and at present has a number of pupils within the code of practice. Pupils with persistent learning or behavioural difficulties will receive support from the local education authority's educational psychologist.
