Background:
Ponteland Community High School was opened in purpose-built accommodation in September 1972 as a Comprehensive High School for pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. There have been significant additions to and refurbishment of the accommodation in recent years. These include five state-of-the-art science laboratories, a new sixth form centre and a four-classroom block added to the humanities area. It was the first state school in the country to gain Language College status and the developments which have taken place, have seen it become a centre of excellence for the teaching of languages. The school has an excellent record in many sports. There are a wide variety of school teams, tutor teams and clubs in which the child can participate. Children can benefit from the vast range of international activities for which the school has granted the International School Award for 1999-2001 and 2002-2004. The school is determined to enable every student to develop to their maximum potential in a caring, supportive and disciplined environment.
