Background:
Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Primary was built in 1936 and is situated amongst 'pleasant surroundings' including a hard surfaced playground, 'extensive' playing fields and landscaped gardens. Pupils are drawn from the nearby areas of Penshaw, Shiney Row, Fattfield and Mount Pleasant. There are seven classes. Many improvements have recently been made to the fabric of the building including new windows and doors and an intruder alarm system, and all classrooms have been carpeted. The school aims to be 'happy and friendly'. A variety of extra-curricular activities are offered and currently include football and netball coaching. 'Many' parents are involved in supporting staff and children with class-based activities and out of school visits. A recently-formed group of parents, Friends of Our Lady Queen of Peace, raises funds for the school by organising social events for both parents and children.
